Indian Overseas Bank has stated that the number of vacancies is provisional and may be increased, decreased, or left unfilled depending on the Bank’s operational requirements. The recruitment is reserved exclusively for Ex-Servicemen/Ex-Agniveers, excluding Disabled Ex-Servicemen.

Candidates belonging to the OBC creamy layer must apply under the General category and cannot claim OBC reservation. The Bank may ask candidates to produce valid caste, EWS, or non-creamy-layer certificates at the relevant stage of recruitment.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must carefully check the full eligibility conditions before completing the IOB Security Guard online form. Merely submitting an application does not guarantee participation in the selection process.

Educational Qualification

Candidates must have passed the 10th Standard (SSLC) or an equivalent examination from a recognised board. However, an important condition applies: the candidate must not have passed Graduation or an equivalent qualification.

Applicants must also be able to speak, read, and write Tamil, as the recruitment is for Chennai/Tamil Nadu. Ex-Servicemen without the prescribed civil qualification may be considered if they meet the alternative service-certificate conditions stated in the official notification.

Defence-Service Requirement

The applicant must be an eligible Ex-Serviceman or Ex-Agniveer from the Army, Navy, or Air Force. The character at the time of valid discharge from the Armed Forces should be recorded as “Exemplary.”

Candidates still serving in the Armed Forces may apply if their specific period of engagement is due to be completed on or before 30 September 2026. Persons with Disabilities, Disabled Ex-Servicemen, and dependants of servicemen killed in action are not eligible for this particular recruitment.

Age relaxation is available for eligible Ex-Servicemen based on the actual period of defence service plus three years, subject to a maximum age of 45 years. For Ex-Agniveers, the upper-age provision is 21 years plus the actual Agniveer service period and three additional years, as per the notification.

Medical Standard

Applicants must have held the minimum medical standard of SHAPE-1 or AYE, whichever is applicable, at the time of valid discharge from the Armed Forces. Candidates shortlisted for the Physical Fitness Test must also submit a medical fitness certificate from an eligible medical practitioner; the certificate should not be more than 15 days old on the date of the physical test.

Selected candidates for the IOB Security Guard post will be placed in the Subordinate Staff Cadre under the 12th Bipartite Settlement. The applicable pay scale is:

This means the basic pay begins at ₹19,500 per month and rises through annual increments up to a maximum basic pay of ₹37,815 per month.

Basic pay will be fixed with reference to the candidate’s last drawn defence-service salary. In addition to basic pay, selected employees will receive applicable allowances and emoluments under the industry-wide bipartite settlement and IOB rules. The probation period will be six months of active service from the date of joining.

The Security Guard’s responsibilities include protecting Bank premises and property, operating CCTV and access-control systems, handling security equipment such as alarms and metal detectors, maintaining fire-alarm and firefighting equipment, and working in rotational or night shifts. Candidates should therefore apply only if they are willing to work on a 24×7×365 shift basis.

IOB Security Guard Selection Process

The selection process contains three major stages:

  1. Online Objective Test
  2. Tamil Local Language Test
  3. Physical Fitness Test

The Tamil Local Language Test will be conducted separately for 20 marks. Candidates who qualify in the online examination and language test, and meet the applicable cutoff requirements, will be called for the Physical Fitness Test.

The Physical Fitness Test carries 100 marks and includes push-ups, sit-ups, a one-kilometre run, and drill. Candidates must qualify in every component. For example, candidates need at least 15 push-ups and 15 sit-ups to pass those respective components, while a one-kilometre run taking more than six minutes will result in failure. Final merit will be prepared based on the combined marks obtained in the objective test, Tamil language test, and Physical Fitness Test, with selection made category-wise.
