Post Details and Salary
India Post GDS recruitment includes three categories of posts. GDS personnel are engaged mainly for rural postal operations and are paid Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA), rather than the pay scale applicable to regular Central Government employees. The notification also states that GDS are holders of civil posts outside the regular civil services of the Union.
| Post | Basic TRCA slab |
|---|---|
| Branch Postmaster (BPM) | Rs. 12,000 to Rs. 29,380 |
| ABPM / Dak Sevak | Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 24,470 |
In addition to TRCA, eligible GDS personnel receive Dearness Allowance as declared by the Government of India. The notification provides for a 3% annual increment in TRCA subject to prescribed conditions, besides certain social-security benefits such as GDS Gratuity and the Service Discharge Benefit Scheme.
Job Responsibilities
- BPM: Runs day-to-day Branch Post Office operations, handles India Post Payments Bank services, manages mail delivery where applicable, promotes postal products and may oversee the work of ABPMs.
- ABPM: Assists in postal operations, performs doorstep mail delivery, handles stamps and stationery, supports IPPB transactions, and may perform BPM duties when directed.
- Dak Sevak: May work in post offices, mail/sorting offices, transit mail offices or delivery centres; duties can include mail and parcel handling, delivery work, IPPB transactions and other assigned operational tasks.
A BPM selected for a Branch Post Office must arrange suitable accommodation for operating the branch post office at their own cost and must reside in the post village. ABPMs and Dak Sevaks must reside within the delivery jurisdiction of the relevant post office.
Eligibility Criteria
Age Limit
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and not more than 40 years old as on the last date for online application submission.
Upper-age relaxation is available as follows:
| Category | Relaxation |
|---|---|
| SC/ST | 5 years |
| OBC | 3 years |
| PwBD | 10 years |
| PwBD + OBC | 13 years |

Educational Qualification
Candidates must have passed the Secondary School Examination (Class 10/SSC) from a recognized board, with passing marks in Mathematics and English. They must also have studied the prescribed local language of the concerned postal circle or post office at least up to Class 10.
For Telangana posts, applicants should carefully check the exact local-language requirement shown against the notified vacancy before giving their preferences. Simply being a Telangana resident does not replace the requirement to have studied the relevant local language as prescribed for that post.
Other Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Knowledge of computers
- Knowledge of cycling
- Adequate means of livelihood
- A valid mobile number and email address for portal registration and recruitment updates
The selected candidates must submit the prescribed undertakings regarding computer knowledge, cycling and adequate means of livelihood at the time of engagement.
India Post GDS Selection Process
There is no written examination or interview for this engagement cycle. India Post will prepare a system-generated merit list using Class 10 marks, aggregated to a percentage accurate to four decimal places.
For candidates whose mark sheets carry grades or grade points, the portal/system will apply the notification’s prescribed conversion rules. Candidates should enter marks, grades or points exactly as displayed on their SSC/Class 10 certificate; incorrect entries may result in rejection.
Where candidates have the same merit percentage, the notification specifies tie-breaking rules, beginning with the older candidate and then applying category/gender-based priority criteria.
Shortlisted candidates must undergo physical verification of original documents at the designated divisional or unit office. They generally need to report within 15 days of shortlisting. Documents include the Class 10 mark sheet, ID proof, date-of-birth proof, category certificates where applicable, medical certificate and other relevant original certificates.

The application fee is Rs. 100 for eligible candidates. However, all female candidates, trans-woman candidates, and SC/ST candidates are exempt from payment of the fee. Candidates interested in India Post GDS Recruitment 2026 should read the complete official notification and check the circle-wise vacancy annexure before applying. This is particularly important because the number of vacancies is tentative and the Department reserves the right to revise vacancies, modify the schedule or cancel the engagement process when required.
