POWERGRID Apprentices Recruitment 2026: Apply Online for 270 Posts

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has released the POWERGRID Apprentices Recruitment 2026 notification for 270 apprenticeship training slots across multiple regions in India. Eligible ITI, Diploma, and engineering graduate candidates can submit their online applications from 25 August 2026 to 10 September 2026 through the official POWERGRID apprenticeship portal.

This is a one-year apprenticeship opportunity under the Apprentices Act, 1961. Candidates should note that it is an apprenticeship programme, not a permanent POWERGRID employment notification. There is no application fee, written examination, or interview; selection will be made on merit, followed by document verification.

A total of 270 apprentice positions have been announced under various POWERGRID regions and establishments. Candidates must check the region-wise detailed advertisement before applying because the trade-wise vacancies, reservation details, qualification requirements and training locations vary by region/state.

• Diploma Apprentice in Electrical Engineering
• Diploma Apprentice in Civil Engineering

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must satisfy the eligibility requirements specified in the relevant regional detailed advertisement. The basic conditions announced by POWERGRID are given below.

Educational qualification

Candidates should have completed a regular, full-time qualification from a recognised institute or university in the relevant discipline:

• ITI Electrician: Full-time ITI in Electrician trade
• Diploma Electrical: Three-year full-time Diploma in Electrical Engineering
• Diploma Civil: Three-year full-time Diploma in Civil Engineering
• Graduate Electrical: Full-time B.E./B.Tech/B.Sc. Engineering in Electrical Engineering
• Graduate Civil: Full-time B.E./B.Tech/B.Sc. Engineering in Civil Engineering

Part-time, correspondence, distance-learning and online-mode qualifications are not eligible for the apprenticeship positions covered under the detailed notification.

Age limit

The candidate must be at least 18 years old on the date of application. POWERGRID has also stated that applicants must be Indian citizens.

Pass-out period

Candidates must have passed their qualifying examination within two years from the closing date of application. For the SR-II notice, the acceptable pass-out period is from 11 September 2024 to 10 September 2026. Applicants should verify the same condition in their respective regional notice.

Who cannot apply?

The following candidates are not eligible:

• Candidates awaiting final examination results
• Applicants below 18 years of age
• Candidates who have already completed or are currently undergoing apprenticeship training in any organisation
• Applicants with more than one year of job experience
• Candidates applying in more than one region, state or trade

POWERGRID advises candidates to apply for only one region/state and one trade. Multiple applications may lead to rejection of candidature.

POWERGRID Apprentice Stipend 2026

The monthly stipend depends on the apprentice trade and qualification. As per the SR-II detailed advertisement, the indicative monthly stipend is as follows:

The detailed notice also mentions an additional ₹2,500 payment where company accommodation is not provided, subject to the applicable terms. Candidates should confirm the stipend and accommodation conditions in the notification applicable to the region selected by them.

POWERGRID Apprentice Selection Process

There will be no written examination and no interview for the POWERGRID Apprentices Recruitment 2026. Applications will be screened and shortlisted on the basis of merit in the prescribed qualifying examination.

The selection process involves:

1. Online application submission through the official portal.
2. Merit-based screening based on eligibility, relevant qualification and marks.
3. Calling candidates for document verification, generally in a 1:5 ratio against available training slots.
4. Preparation of the final merit list among candidates who report for verification and are found eligible.
5. Completion of the tripartite apprenticeship contract on the NAPS/NATS portal, medical fitness requirements and police verification, as applicable.

Step 1: Register on NAPS or NATS

• ITI Electrician candidates must register on the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme portal, apprenticeshipindia.gov.in.
• Degree and Diploma engineering candidates must register on the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme portal, nats.education.gov.in.

Candidates should complete or update their profile and ensure that all required details and documents are uploaded correctly.

Step 2: Submit the POWERGRID application

Important Instructions

Candidates should remember that completion of the one-year apprenticeship does not create any right or claim for permanent employment in POWERGRID. The company may terminate the apprenticeship for poor performance, unauthorised absence, misconduct or violation of company policies. Apprentices are also not permitted to pursue a regular course or another job during the training period.
